The Wafer application, specialized in creating non-photorealistic textures for 3D models, leaves behind its iPad exclusivity. Developed by Sparseal, a company founded by Pablo Dobarro and Joan Fons, it is now available for Windows and macOS. Its focus is on stylized styles for video games, animation, and illustration, allowing direct painting on imported models in OBJ, FBX, and GLB.
From Blender to Godot: the technical DNA behind Wafer 🎨
Wafer leverages its creators' experience in open-source tools. Pablo Dobarro led the development of sculpting in Blender, while Joan Fons contributed to Godot Engine. The application allows painting on 3D models or in a two-dimensional texture view. It does not aim to replace complex suites, but rather to offer an agile workflow for artists who prioritize stylized over realistic.
Now artists can suffer on big screens 🖥️
iPad users complained that their fingers slipped on the touch screen. Now, with the desktop version, they can enjoy the same problem but with a mouse and a larger screen. Of course, at least they will be able to see the pixels clearly while cursing their graphics drivers. A technical advance that, ironically, does not solve the lack of coffee.
