Skoda is analyzing the possibility of bringing the Kylaq, a compact SUV manufactured in India that is already very popular in its local market, to Europe. The strategy aims to offer an affordably priced vehicle to compete directly with Chinese brands, which are advancing strongly in the entry-level segment. The final decision will depend on feasibility studies and logistics costs.
MQB A0 IN platform and engines adapted to European regulations 🚗
The Kylaq is based on the MQB A0 IN platform, an Indian variant of the Volkswagen Group's well-known modular architecture. It measures 3.99 meters in length and is equipped with a 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine producing 115 hp, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. For its eventual arrival in Europe, Skoda would need to adjust the suspension tuning and add assistance systems that comply with Euro NCAP safety standards, as well as review emission controls for Euro 7 homologation.
The low-cost SUV that will make premium dealerships sweat 💸
Imagine walking into a dealership with 15,000 euros in your pocket and leaving with a brand new SUV, without having to sell a kidney. That's what the Kylaq promises, although with currency exchange rates and tariffs, the price might end up high enough to make you wonder if it wouldn't be better to buy an electric scooter and save up for gas. But hey, Skoda knows that cheap can be expensive... sometimes.
