Joan Mir is going through a delicate moment in MotoGP. After two seasons at Honda, the Balearic rider has shown flashes of speed but also an alarming tendency to crash. In Barcelona, the rider was clear: he will soon know where he will race in 2025 and is looking for a team that allows him to compete at the highest level without so many upsets. Patience in the HRC garage is running out.
Technical development: an RC213V that never quite adapts 🏍️
The Honda RC213V remains a demanding bike. Mir has pointed out that the main problem is not power, but the lack of traction and erratic braking behavior. While other factories advance in aerodynamics and electronics, Honda seems to be a step behind. Japanese engineers are working against the clock to give Mir a more predictable base, but the rider needs results now and cannot wait for the bike to evolve on its own.
The alternative: change teams or change hobbies 😅
If Honda does not improve, Mir could consider less orthodox options. Like switching to trials, where at least the crashes are slower and hurt less. Or opening a spare parts shop, which given his history of breakages, would be a goldmine. But in the meantime, the Mallorcan continues to look for a team where he doesn't have to explain every Sunday why he ended up in the gravel.
