MG is experiencing a 2026 of contrasts. While it renews its range with the MG4 Urban and consolidates the MG3 hybrid, its total sales are falling compared to 2025. The ZS, its flagship model, suffers a notable decline as the cheapest version disappears and it shifts towards HEV technology, which already accounts for more than half of its registrations. The Chinese brand faces its first major test in Spain. 📉
The electrification of the ZS: HEV as a technical bet 🔋
The new ZS HEV features a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 102 HP combined with a 100 kW electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery. Total power is 195 HP, with an average consumption of 4.7 l/100 km. The three-speed automatic transmission manages torque delivery. This system, inherited from the MG3, prioritizes efficiency in the city. The disappearance of the 1.5-liter atmospheric engine with 106 HP and a price of 17,990 euros has left a gap in the range's entry point.
Goodbye to the cheap ZS: customers look for outlet deals 💸
By eliminating the gasoline version at 17,990 euros, MG has left many buyers with their driver's license in one hand and a calculator in the other. Now the ZS HEV starts at 21,990 euros, and the average customer seems to have gone bargain hunting elsewhere. Sales are falling, but at least those who buy the hybrid can boast of having the ECO label and consumption that doesn't cause scares.
