Mercedes has opened orders in Spain for its first 100% electric C-Class, a sedan that arrives under the name C 400 4MATIC. With 489 horsepower and a range of over 700 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, this model kicks off the electric transition of the star's mid-range lineup. Production starts in June in Hungary, and first deliveries are expected in September.
The platform and battery of the C 400 4MATIC 🔋
The new electric C-Class uses the modular MMA platform, designed for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models. The C 400 4MATIC version features two motors, one per axle, delivering a combined 489 HP and enabling variable all-wheel drive. The lithium-ion battery has a usable capacity of 85 kWh and supports fast charging up to 200 kW on direct current, allowing a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes. Aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.22, help achieve that range of over 700 kilometers.
700 km of range, but without drifting off course 🚗
700 kilometers on a single charge sounds like a Madrid-Barcelona trip without stopping, as long as you don't get stuck in traffic on the A-2 and end up using the climate control like it's free. Because yes, the WLTP range is a very nice figure, but in practice you'll have to choose between reaching your destination or driving at 130 km/h with the heater at 22 degrees. At least, the 420-liter trunk has room for the travel charger and a bit of patience.
