KIA expands the range of its most popular SUV with a version that promises to end range anxiety. The Sportage Tri-Fuel combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 180 HP with an LPG system and electrification. Developed by the brand's Italian division, this hybrid achieves 1,500 kilometers on a single refueling, surpassing any diesel in the segment.
How the Sportage Tri-Fuel mechanics work 🚗
The system allows switching between gasoline, LPG, and electricity via a button on the transmission, with level indicators for each fuel. The LPG tank is located where the spare tire used to be, but the trunk does not suffer: it offers 587 liters with the rear seats deployed and up to 1,776 liters when folded down. The interior and exterior design remains identical to the conventional Sportage, with two digital screens and capacity for five passengers.
Running out of gas? No problem, you have two Plan Bs 😅
If you ever get stranded with empty LPG and a low battery, you still have gasoline. And if that also runs out, you can always hitchhike. With 1,500 kilometers of range, though, you'd have to be very unlucky or driving in circles on the M-30 for that to happen. At least, the trunk is still so large that you could carry a reserve canister without any issues.
