The second season of Citadel arrives with a visual ambition that leaves no one indifferent. DNEG, as the lead visual effects partner, has deployed a technical arsenal to sustain the series' realism. Their work ranges from subtle enhancements in character-driven scenes to massive action sequences with computer-generated vehicles, explosions, muzzle flashes, bullet impacts, and digital blood effects.
DNEG builds digital environments and realistic ballistics 🎬
The DNEG team has digitally recreated an entire motel street, a computer-generated environment that allows camera freedom without compromising realism. Additionally, ballistics was a key point: every bullet impact and explosion was calculated to integrate with the set's lighting. CGI vehicles and digital blood effects avoid on-set risks, allowing actors to focus on the action without relying on real pyrotechnics or prosthetic makeup.
Fake blood or digital blood? Both, and neither hurts 💥
Because of course, when you see a spy get shot in the shoulder and not stain the editing room sofa, you know DNEG has done its magic. Digital blood is so precise that even a surgeon would approve, but without the hassle of cleaning the set for hours. And hey, the CGI vehicles are so realistic that if virtual crashes didn't need insurance, we'd even use them to commute to work.
