A cruise ship operated by P&O docked this Wednesday at the port of Gijón after reporting a norovirus outbreak that affected around 200 passengers and 30 crew members. Health authorities authorized disembarkation after confirming that the situation was under control and that cleaning and disinfection protocols had been applied on board.
Disinfection protocols and health control on board 🧼
Health authorities conducted a detailed inspection of the vessel to verify the application of hygiene protocols. These include deep cleaning of high-contact surfaces, isolation of affected passengers, and disinfection with virucidal agents. Norovirus, highly contagious, spreads through direct contact or contaminated surfaces, requiring enhanced ventilation and the use of gloves in common areas during the outbreak.
The buffet, that great ally of norovirus 🍽️
While passengers enjoyed the buffet, norovirus was also helping itself to a double portion. Nothing like sharing ladles and tongs to make a virus feel right at home. The best part is that, after the inspection, Health authorities gave the green light. So, if anyone thought they were going to skip the disembarkation queue, they were wrong: even for vomiting, you have to follow the protocol.
