The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has announced an investment of 3.5 million euros for the San José del Álamo road in Teror. The project aims to improve a route that combines sharp curves and limited width, factors that affect safety and traffic flow. The works include widening the roadway, correcting the most dangerous turns, and renewing the pavement, with the goal of providing safer circulation for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Curve correction and roadway widening 🚧
From a technical standpoint, the intervention addresses the critical points of the route by widening the platform in the narrowest sections and modifying the turning radius in low-visibility curves. A new wearing course will be applied with materials that improve grip, reducing the risk of skidding in rainy conditions. Additionally, safety barriers will be installed and lateral drainage will be improved to prevent water accumulation. These measures aim to reduce accident rates on a road that supports increasing traffic.
Goodbye to last-minute steering jerks 🚗
Finally, drivers will be able to stop making that steering maneuver that looks like a wave to Saint Joseph. With the widening of the roadway, perhaps the need to close your eyes when passing another car on the curves will also disappear. And pedestrians, those brave souls who walked hugging the ditch like tightrope walkers, will be able to stroll without feeling like they are participating in a reflex contest. Of course, we will have to wait for the works to finish, and we know how that deadline thing works.
