BMW has unveiled the eighth generation of the 3 Series, which in its electric version adopts the name i3 2026. This model is the first representative of the Neue Klasse strategy in its segment. With a larger dimensions design and an announced range close to 900 km, it seeks to define the standard for the premium electric sedan. It will coexist with thermal versions, but its platform and conception mark a different path.
Neue Klasse: a technical base to redefine the electric sedan ⚡
The i3 2026 is developed on a platform specific to electric vehicles, a fundamental change compared to previous generations. This architecture allows for a new-generation battery with higher energy density, key to the promised range. The propulsion system offers power close to 500 HP. The interior is dominated by screens and a digital interface, prioritizing the technological experience over traditional physical controls.
A design that... well, at least you can see it coming 😅
BMW claims that the design seeks a distinct presence. And it certainly achieves it. With those rear bumpers that seem to have a life of their own and lines that mix aggressiveness with a certain robustness, it's a car that doesn't go unnoticed. Perhaps the goal was for competing drivers to identify it without doubt from the rearview mirror. In that sense, it's a resounding success: from afar you already know it's the new i3, though you might need a moment to process it.
