Volkswagen has decided to discontinue the sporty GTX version of its electric compact ID.3 Neo to make way for a new model with the iconic GTI badge. This change means that drivers will have to wait until 2027 to access a vehicle with more than 300 horsepower and a range close to 600 kilometers. The decision aims to improve performance but delays the arrival of this variant at dealerships.
More power and optimized battery for the new GTI ⚡
The new ID.3 GTI will exceed 300 HP, a significant leap compared to the current GTX's 299 HP. The MEB platform has been revised to accommodate a higher-capacity battery, allowing a range of up to 600 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. Additionally, it will feature a rear-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, improving cornering response. Power delivery will be more linear, prioritizing efficiency over abrupt acceleration.
The electric GTI arrives just as the ID.3 becomes a classic 🚗
By the time the new GTI lands in 2027, the current ID.3 will already be old enough to file its tax return. Meanwhile, fans of sporty badges can entertain themselves by arguing in forums whether the artificial engine sound will be a lion's roar or a blender's hum. What is clear is that Volkswagen is playing the distraction game again: it announces a powerful car but hides it on the calendar as if it were a delayed Three Kings' gift.
