Figma unveiled at its Config conference new AI-powered features that allow generating animations and visual effects from text descriptions. Direct code editing within the design is also being added. For the average user, this reduces time spent on repetitive tasks and simplifies the creation of complex graphics, bringing advanced tools closer to those who do not master programming.
Integrated code editing and visual automation 🛠️
The update allows developers to modify the source code directly from the design canvas, syncing changes in real-time. The AI interprets commands like animate button with soft bounce and generates transitions without manual intervention. This eliminates intermediate steps between the prototype and the final product. For product teams, it means fewer back-and-forths between tools, although it requires checking that the AI does not misinterpret complex or ambiguous instructions.
Now the AI also saves you the drama of explaining what you want 😅
If before you wasted three hours arguing with your designer about whether the button should be sky blue or ocean blue, now you just tell the AI make it blue like the sea and it gives you a gradient with animated waves. Of course, then you find out the client wanted pool blue and you have to repeat the prompt. But hey, at least the machine doesn't roll its eyes when you change your mind for the fifth time.
