Chaos has announced the return of support for AMD graphics cards in V-Ray, its popular rendering engine. The company has integrated the HIP framework in the V-Ray 7 Update 3 for 3ds Max, allowing AMD hardware users to once again use GPU acceleration. This is the first time in nearly a decade that the software offers proper compatibility with these graphics processing units.
HIP as a technological bridge between V-Ray and AMD GPUs 🚀
The implementation of the HIP framework allows V-Ray to directly access the architecture of AMD GPUs, eliminating the dependence on intermediate solutions like OpenCL. Users can now harness the computing power of Radeon cards to accelerate rendering tasks in VFX, motion graphics, and architectural visualization. The engine supports both production mode and GPU RTX mode, adapting workflows to this specific hardware. The update is now available for V-Ray subscribers.
Eight years later, AMD returns to the rendering table 🎮
After an eight-year drought, AMD users can use V-Ray without feeling like that guest no one serves dinner to. Chaos has remembered that red hardware also exists and, apparently, works. The community of Radeon renderers can now set aside homemade solutions and YouTube tutorials that promised miracles with OpenCL. Finally, the battle for graphics acceleration has a new round, although many suspect the referee still favors Nvidia.
