The Splendid Xàbia Folk once again filled the Tossal de Santa Llúcia with life in an edition that left its mark. The show Va de Dones was the centerpiece, combining music, folklore, and feminist activism in a spring setting that invited reflection and collective enjoyment.
Technology at the service of popular tradition 🎵
Behind the stage setup, the organization integrated directional sound systems and low-consumption LED lighting to minimize environmental impact on the natural site. An open-source application was used to coordinate performance timings and the simultaneous translation of the activist lyrics. The modular, demountable stage structure allowed adaptation to the uneven terrain of the Tossal without the need for permanent construction.
Feminism with rhythm: the dance that asks for no permission 💃
Va de Dones proved that you can sing for equality while stomping your feet as if there were no tomorrow. One attendee commented that the only problem was that the choreographies were so intense that by the end, more than one person needed a respirator and a sobrasada sandwich. Good thing folklore burns calories and consciences in equal measure.
