Nintendo has confirmed the addition of five Virtual Boy titles to the Nintendo Classics catalog, available for subscribers. The selected games are V-Tetris, Jack Bros., Space Invaders Virtual Collection, Virtual Bowling, and Vertical Force. In Japan, Virtual Fishing will also be included. Emulation and adaptation of Virtual Boy titles đšī¸
The development of this update involved emulation work to make Virtual Boy games run on modern hardware. The original console, released in 1995, used a red monochrome screen and stereoscopic effects. Nintendo has had to recreate that visual experience without altering gameplay. The selected titles represent various genres: puzzles, action, and sports. The inclusion of Space Invaders Virtual Collection shows interest in reviving classic franchises in a portable format.
Virtual Fishing: the fish that got away from the global catalog đ
As expected, players outside Japan will miss out on fishing in Virtual Fishing. Nintendo decided that releasing a fishing game in red and black was only acceptable in the Japanese market. Meanwhile, Western subscribers will have to settle for throwing balls in Virtual Bowling. At least we won't have to worry about motion sickness: modern emulators already include the option to turn off screen flickering.
