The Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain team has completed its participation in the Rally de Portugal, one of the toughest events on the world championship calendar. Drivers Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, aboard the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, finished all stages demonstrating solidity and adaptation to the Portuguese gravel roads, accumulating key experience for their progress in the championship.
The GR Yaris Rally2 and its setup on Portuguese terrain 🏁
The Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, with its all-wheel drive and three-cylinder turbo engine, was subjected to demanding conditions during the rally. Temperature management on long stages and tire wear on abrasive surfaces were key points. The team adjusted the suspension setup and power distribution to maintain pace on fast and technical sections, prioritizing mechanical reliability over the risk of chasing extreme times.
No GPS, but a good eye for potholes 😅
Although the car didn't have a next-generation navigator to dodge the rocks, Cachón and Rozada proved that road experience is still worth its weight in gold. Between pace notes, they learned that in Portugal, potholes show no mercy and that the best strategy is not to mistake a dip for a launch ramp. In the end, they finished with the car intact and the smile of someone who knows they've survived the lottery of broken asphalt.
