Toyota has inaugurated Woven City in Susono, a $10 billion laboratory city designed by BIG. Since September 2025, it houses 100 residents (employees and families) in 55 homes. The project aims to test mobility, robotics, and AI in an uncontrolled real-world environment, with plans to reach 2,000 inhabitants and open to the public in 2026.
AI Vision Engine: the all-seeing eye in three road layers 🏙️
The technological core is the AI Vision Engine, a computer vision system that processes data from cameras and sensors in real time. It anticipates behaviors and responds to the environment, managing three road layers: pedestrians, autonomous vehicles, and underground logistics. Toyota has also created Toyota Invention Partners with 670 million euros to integrate external solutions, turning the city into an unfiltered testing ground.
Welcome to Woven City: 24/7 surveillance with views of Mount Fuji 🗻
Living here means accepting a permanent layer of algorithmic monitoring. The 100 lucky residents enjoy futuristic security and autonomous mobility, but every step, every purchase, and every yawn is recorded. It's like having a nosy neighbor, but with artificial intelligence and no chance of telling it off. The future is bright... and very, very watched.
