Threads, Meta's social network that started as a Twitter clone, wants to fly solo. The platform has unveiled a brand redesign that eliminates any direct link to Instagram. The main change: they are abandoning the typography inherited from Instagram Sans to adopt a bolder, more inclined, italic style of their own. A visual declaration of independence.
Italic typography to break technical ties 🖋️
The new logo does away with the smooth curves of Instagram Sans and opts for a font with a 12-degree tilt angle, thick strokes, and greater visual weight. Designers have adjusted the kerning so that the @ symbol, now simplified, functions as a graphic anchor. The color palette remains in gradient tones, but the focus is on legibility at smaller sizes. A subtle yet calculated change.
Meta discovers copying Twitter wasn't enough 🚀
After months of being Instagram's little brother, Threads has decided it's high time to have its own identity. In other words, it doesn't want to be mistaken for a selfie-editing app. The new italic logo seems to say: look, I'm fast, I'm direct, and I don't need filters. Although, let's be honest, most people will still accidentally end up in the dog photos tab.
