The Zaragoza Firefighters have intervened again this early morning at the Recycling Technology Park in La Cartuja Baja. At 2:30 AM, a fire in a yard of Industrias L贸pez Soriano affected stored appliances. This is the third intervention of the year in the same area, which is starting to become a nightly routine for emergency services.
Technology against fire in recycling plants 馃敟
Extinguishing these fires requires specific equipment. Firefighters use thermal imaging cameras to locate hot spots under debris and Class B foam agents to smother flames in plastic materials. The accumulation of crushed appliances creates latent hot spots that are difficult to detect. Thermal monitoring systems in the yards could reduce response times, but their installation remains scarce in the sector.
The PTR burns more than the end-of-year agenda 馃槄
At this rate, the Zaragoza firefighters are going to ask for a season pass to the PTR. Three fires so far this year and we are barely in February. It seems that recycling appliances also includes a spontaneous combustion phase. If the trend continues, the technology park might change its name to the Recurring Fire Technology Park. Good thing the firefighters already know where to park.
