Nintendo has confirmed a new Star Fox title for Switch 2, scheduled for June 25, 2026. It is a remake of the classic Star Fox 64, with graphics rebuilt from scratch and new character designs. The main campaign retains the original levels, but adds a challenge mode with fresh objectives and an online battle mode for two teams of four players.
A technical facelift for the old guard 🛸
The remake runs on a renewed graphics engine that leverages Switch 2's hardware to deliver high-resolution textures and dynamic lighting effects. Ship and character models have been redesigned, although the level layouts remain identical to those from 1997. The frame rate stays stable at 60 FPS, even in the most enemy-heavy phases. The audio includes a re-recorded soundtrack and updated sound effects, while respecting the original voices.
The same path, but with more pixels and fewer excuses 🎮
In the end, Nintendo has decided that the best approach was to change nothing that might upset purists, except for the graphics and additional modes. So get ready to dodge the same Andross barriers and hear the same Slippy jokes, only now in 4K. The online mode promises chaos with eight players, though half will surely complain that it was more fun on the 64 without the internet.
