Kakehashi Games and the studio Serial Project, formed by two former LEVEL-5 employees, have released a time-limited demo of Serial World for PC on Steam. Available until May 11th as part of the Steam Deckbuilder's Fest, this roguelike deck-building game takes us to Bricktown, a colorful and cartoonish world. We control Milo, a young man investigating mysterious disappearances in his home, in an adventure reminiscent of nostalgic RPGs. 🎮
Two former LEVEL-5 employees and an engine that tugs at nostalgia 🏗️
Serial Project, a two-person team, applies their experience at LEVEL-5 to build a deck system with turn-based combat. The demo offers a taste of its core mechanic: each run modifies the deck with cards representing items and abilities, while the narrative progresses through the streets of Bricktown. Using Unity as the engine allows for a flat, vibrant visual style with simple yet effective animations. The roguelike structure ensures each attempt is different, though the small team limits the amount of content in this trial version.
A demo that lasts less than your phone's battery ⏳
The Serial World demo is available until May 11th, giving you just enough time to decide if you like it before it disappears like the disappearances in the game. Because yes, nothing says confidence in your product like limiting the trial to a few days. But hey, if you miss it, you can always console yourself by watching videos of others playing while waiting for the full release. At least the visual style is nice, even if the mystery of Bricktown will have to wait.
