Artist Devesh Pariyani presents Sangam, a digital artwork that merges Hindu mythology with a futuristic cinematic aesthetic. The piece depicts the divine union between a Gandharva, a celestial musician with equine features and four arms, and an Apsara, a celestial dancer. The creative process integrates cultural references and real anatomical details to achieve a harmonious composition.
3D Modeling and Digital Glazing: The Technical Workflow 🎨
The workflow begins with sketches and a mood board to integrate the horse head into a human face using anatomical references. Then, a 3D blockout is done in Blender to verify the perspective and scale of the veena-like instrument that serves as the stage. After a grayscale value sketch in Photoshop to define the lighting, color glazes, material textures like gold and silk, and glow effects with custom brushes are applied. This separates the characters from the celestial atmospheric background.
When Your Stage Is an Instrument and Your Model Has Four Arms 🎵
The Gandharva not only plays the veena but literally uses it as a dance floor for the Apsara. One wonders if the celestial musician asked for a raise in arms in his divine contract or if it's a trick to avoid sharing the instrument. At least, with four limbs, there's no excuse not to tune all the strings while the dancer performs her pirouettes.
