The Alarcos pilgrimage, an unmissable event in Ciudad Real, returns on May 24 and 25, 2026, with a program full of changes. Highlights include interactive workshops on the Cerro de Alarcos, a theatrical route of the medieval battle, and an expanded dining area with local products. Access to the site has also been improved, and a children's area with traditional games has been created.
Technical development of the event: improved access and logistics 🛠️
The organization has implemented improvements to the site's infrastructure. The pedestrian and vehicle access system has been redesigned to reduce usual traffic jams. Digital information points with QR codes linking to interactive maps of the hill and activity schedules have been installed. The dining area features an ordering system via its own app, integrating local producers into a logistics platform that streamlines service during the two days.
The Battle of Alarcos: now with less dust and more actors ⚔️
The theatrical route promises to recreate the 1195 battle with such realism that even the Almoravids will carry GPS to avoid getting lost among the holm oaks. Organizers assure there will be more actors than in previous years, although the number of horses remains the same as in the original battle: just enough to avoid having to clean up too much manure afterwards. If you survive the history workshop without confusing a catapult with a rotisserie, you will have succeeded.
