PlayStation 5 virtual pilots can now access a free update that integrates the PlayStation VR2 headset with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio have enabled this feature to offer a more immersive flight experience. With 125 aircraft available, players can explore the world from a first-person perspective that brings the feeling of piloting a real plane directly into their living room.
How VR integration works on PS5 🎮
The update uses PSVR2 hardware to track head and hand movements, allowing you to look around the cockpit and manipulate controls like in a desktop simulator. Asobo Studio has adjusted the visual scale and performance to maintain a stable 60 fps on PS5, albeit with dynamic resolutions. Users can switch between VR mode and flat screen with a button, without needing to restart the game. No additional peripherals are required beyond the headset and Sense controllers.
Living room flying: the wet dream of the window-seat hater 😅
Now you can crash a Cessna into the Empire State Building without leaving the couch, pay the mortgage, and have the perfect excuse to skip exercise. Of course, keep a bucket nearby: motion sickness will remind you that your sense of balance is still alive. Plus, you'll discover that landing at Heathrow with the headset on is easier than finding a spot in the supermarket queue on a Saturday. Quite an engineering feat to justify the dust collecting on your PSVR2.
