Pokémon Ocean Blue, the ROM hack that reinvents Kanto up to Gen Nine

The ROM hack community receives a new project called Pokémon Ocean Blue, created by DontJoelMe. This free title offers a renewed experience in Kanto, incorporating all Pokémon up to Generation 9, a redesigned map, a semi-open story, and adjustable difficulty options. It is a solid alternative while waiting for the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves in 2026. 🎮

Redesigned map and random mode as technical foundation 🗺️

Ocean Blue does not simply copy the original map. Its developer has redesigned routes and cities, integrating encounter zones for species from all generations. The game includes a random mode that modifies encounters and trainers, in addition to several difficulty levels that affect AI and Pokémon growth. The semi-open structure allows exploring certain areas without a fixed order, giving the player greater freedom.

Adjustable difficulties so you don't cry at the first gym 😅

If you are one of those who get stuck against Brock or use Fire against Water, Ocean Blue has options for you. You can choose between several difficulty levels, from a stroll through the National Park to a nightmare where even Rattata use status moves. Of course, if you activate random mode, don't come crying when a Magikarp defeats you with Hydro Pump. The game is free, but the patience is on you.
