KDE has released the beta version of Plasma 6.7, bringing several new features to the Linux desktop. Among the most notable changes is an optimization of the remote desktop server, which now uses progressive encoding to better manage bandwidth when H.264 is not available. The notification system has also been redesigned, changing its appearance animation.
Progressive encoding and remote performance 🚀
The main technical improvement comes to the remote desktop module. When the client does not support the H.264 codec, the server now applies progressive encoding, which reduces latency and improves overall transmission performance. This prevents quality drops or noticeable delays on limited connections. Additionally, notifications have changed their visual behavior: instead of appearing gradually, they slide in from off-screen, offering a cleaner and more direct experience.
Notifications with a shower curtain style 🛁
Plasma notifications now slide in as if a messenger were entering through the window. Goodbye to those alerts that materialized out of nowhere, like a digital ghost. Now they enter decisively, like a mailman who has no time for subtleties. That said, if you use remote desktop and the connection is tight, at least you'll know the notifier arrives in style, even if the video looks like a 90s slideshow.
