The weather conditions in Alimatha Cave, Maldives, are favorable for the rescue operation of the four Italians who died on Thursday. The Finnish team, authorized by local authorities, will check the water conditions before beginning the dive to 50 meters depth. Only three divers will participate, complying with the imposed condition.
Closed-circuit technology and Trimix for the dive 🤿
The Finnish divers use closed-circuit breathing equipment, known as rebreathers, which recycle exhaled gas. The Trimix blend, composed of nitrogen, helium, and oxygen, reduces the effects of narcosis at that depth. Additionally, they will use underwater scooters to move quickly inside the cave. This technology allows for a safer and more efficient dive in a high-risk environment.
The diver's shopping list: rebreather, Trimix, and a scooter 🛵
Anyone would think the Finnish divers are going shopping at the bottom of the sea supermarket. They carry a rebreather to avoid wasting air, a gas mixture that sounds like a NASA cocktail, and a scooter so they are not late for their appointment with the bodies. The only thing missing is them booking an appointment at the cave. Three divers for four bodies: Maldivian logic is as clear as the water, but not quite.
