Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revised his projections for OpenAI's phone, moving mass production forward to the first half of 2027. This is a year earlier than estimated just two weeks ago. Although OpenAI does not confirm the data, the move points to a commercial launch in the fall of that year. The industry is closely watching this shift in the artificial intelligence company's strategy.
A device with integrated AI and modular design 🧩
According to Kuo, the terminal will prioritize integrating language models directly into the hardware, reducing reliance on the cloud. A custom processor developed in collaboration with TSMC and a modular architecture allowing key components to be upgraded without changing the device are expected. The camera and battery will take a back seat to local AI processing power. The device would run an adapted version of Android, though without standard Google services.
The phone that will answer you before you ask 🤖
Finally, a phone that will know what you want to say before you even know it yourself. Ideal for those conversations where your partner asks what you want for dinner and the phone answers for you: pizza, again. The downside is it might also alert you that you're late for work before you've even turned off the alarm. Privacy, as always, will be a fuzzy concept in the fine print. But hey, at least you'll have an assistant that won't judge you for ordering junk food at three in the morning.
