OVR Technology has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Omara, a desktop device that releases aromas during video games in under half a second. It connects to the PC and uses interchangeable cartridges with 16 different scents, capable of generating olfactory experiences like a pine forest, campfire smoke, or sea breeze. Each cartridge lasts about 100 hours of gameplay.
Molecule control and game synchronization 🎮
Omara manages the amount of molecules released and quickly eliminates the scent to prevent it from mixing with subsequent events. This is possible thanks to a precise ventilation and heating system that vaporizes aromatic compounds without burning them. The device communicates with the game software to trigger scents at key moments, such as opening a chest or crossing a swamp. The cartridges are interchangeable and allow combining up to 16 base fragrances to create dozens of blends.
So your apartment also smells like a gaming session 🏠
Now you can explain to your neighbors that the smell of gunpowder and sweat isn't due to your lack of hygiene, but because you're playing a tactical shooter. And if your partner complains about the air freshener, tell them it's part of immersive realism. The downside is that after 100 hours, you'll need to change the cartridge. If only the smell of victory lasted as long as that of defeat.
