Movistar has released its new Smart WiFi 7 router for fiber customers. The device boasts ten antennas compared to the nine of the previous model, and incorporates three Gigabit Ethernet ports and one up to 10 Gbps. According to the operator, it promises to be up to 2.5 times faster, with 50% less latency and 70% more traffic capacity, although the actual improvement depends on compatible devices.

The leap to WiFi 7 offers clear technical advantages, but only if you have compatible devices. The new router includes a 10 Gbps port to make the most of symmetric fiber connections, while the previous model was limited to four Gigabit ports. Additionally, energy consumption is reduced by 9%. For those already satisfied with their WiFi 6, an upgrade may not be necessary in the short term.

With ten antennas pointing in all directions, the new router could be mistaken for a space control center. If your biggest concern is getting WiFi in the bathroom, the previous model might suffice. But if you want to feel like an ESA engineer while watching Netflix, go ahead. Of course, make sure your phone or laptop also knows that WiFi 7 exists.
