Travis Knight, director of LAIKA, has presented the third trailer for Masters of the Universe, showcasing a live-action version of the classic 80s franchise. The plot follows Adam, a ten-year-old prince who arrives on Earth and loses his Sword of Power. Fifteen years later, upon recovering it, he returns to Eternia to confront the reign of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.
LAIKA applies its stop-motion animation to digital realism 🎬
The studio behind Kubo and the Two Strings uses its frame-by-frame animation expertise to bring Eternia to life. The film combines physical sets with computer-generated effects, seeking a visual balance that avoids excessive CGI. Knight has prioritized organic textures and precise movements in the creatures, such as Battle Cat, which required a hybrid design between animatronics and 3D modeling to integrate with live actors.
Jared Leto as Skeletor: the villain who can't stop laughing to himself 😈
Seeing Jared Leto under layers of makeup and prosthetics as Skeletor promises moments of intense acting. But the curious fact is that the actor has stated he prepared by watching videos of hyenas laughing and practicing his evil cackle in front of the mirror. At least he didn't ask for a real skull to get into character, which is already an improvement for the sanity of the film set.
