Lorca brings Velázquez, Goya, El Greco and Sorolla to the street

The streets of Lorca become an open-air gallery with works by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, and Sorolla. The City Council has installed large-format panels with reproductions of iconic works such as Las Meninas or The Third of May 1808. The exhibition aims to bring art closer to residents and visitors, creating a free cultural tour through public spaces in the historic center.

The panels use digital printing on weather-resistant materials, with UV treatments and anti-glare laminates to withstand Lorca's climate. Each sheet has been anchored to metal structures designed to integrate into urban furniture without damaging the pavement. The color selection was calibrated from digital files of the original museums, seeking tonal fidelity without falling into artificial saturations.

El Greco and Sorolla, now also experts in shade and heat ☀️

Seeing The Burial of the Count of Orgaz next to a park bench has its charm. Locals already joke that El Greco would need an awning to avoid being dazzled by his own painting at noon. Of course, if Sorolla painted Lorca's sun today, he might demand copyright for the natural light. The exhibition, at least, allows discussing art without paying an entrance fee or enduring queues at a ticket office.
