The Zaragoza City Council has announced that it will resume the third phase of the renovation of Avenida de Navarra, in the Delicias neighborhood. The decision comes after recent floods turned the road into an urban river. The weekend's downpours saturated the sewage system, leaving cars floating and storage rooms flooded, which has accelerated municipal plans to redesign the area's drainage.

The third phase of the project includes the installation of a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS). It plans to create rain gardens and permeable pavements on the sides of the avenue. These elements will filter runoff water and reduce the load on the sewage network. Additionally, drains will be expanded and the road will be connected to a new stormwater collector. The goal is for the infrastructure to absorb episodes of heavy rain without collapsing.

After seeing cars floating like rubber ducks, the city council has decided it's time to act. The new avenue promises to channel water so effectively that residents can forget about fishing their belongings out of the garage. Of course, if the rain becomes torrential again, perhaps the only thing missing will be installing a dock at the number 34 bus stop. Just in case.
