The City Council of La Pobla Llarga will participate in the CERV-2026-CITIZENS-CIV program, a European initiative led by Rome and the Union of European Federalists. The project aims to promote citizen involvement in EU democracy beyond elections, and includes cities such as Brussels and Barcelona. Assemblies, debates, and simulations of the European Parliament are planned.
Simulations of the European Parliament with digital support 🗳️
The activities will include in-person citizen assemblies and public debates, but the technical component will focus on simulations of the European Parliament. These will use electronic voting platforms and simultaneous translation systems to replicate the EU legislative process. A digital newsletter on European rights, accessible via subscription, will also be created, and online forums will be enabled to discuss proposals before bringing them to in-person sessions.
Brussels, Barcelona, Rome… and now La Pobla Llarga, the new center of Europe 🌍
While Brussels and Barcelona argue over being the European epicenter, La Pobla Llarga arrives to remind them that democracy is also built from the grassroots. Of course, let's hope the Parliament simulations don't end with a neighbor blocking the motion because it's their turn to water the geraniums. At least, if it goes wrong, we can always blame Brexit or the lack of wifi in the plenary hall.
