A court in Torrevieja has ordered the immediate deportation to Colombia of the man who beat his ex-partner's cat to death in the San Roque neighborhood. The accused struck the feline more than twenty times with a broomstick and continued kicking it even after it was lifeless. Arrested by the Local Police, he faced charges of animal cruelty with malice and vicarious gender violence. As he lacked legal documentation, he accepted a five-year deportation as a substitute for prison.
Surveillance algorithms to detect animal abuse in real time 🤖
Current technology allows for the integration of security cameras with artificial vision systems that analyze movement patterns and violent behavior. These algorithms, trained on thousands of cases, can alert authorities within seconds if they detect blows or dragging of animals. Combined with audio sensors that capture screams or impacts, they offer an additional layer of protection in sensitive areas. Their implementation in conflictive neighborhoods could prevent cases like the one in San Roque before they escalate.
The cat had more defense than the aggressor in court 😿
While the feline received twenty blows before dying, the aggressor received a fast-track trial and a plane ticket to Colombia. Quite an example of express justice: the accused didn't even have to pay the baggage fee. Of course, the cat, at least, had the courtesy not to file an appeal. In the end, the system shows that, for certain criminals, the most dangerous thing is not prison, but not having their residency papers in order.
