The Hilton Osaka Hotel has announced a collaboration with the Moomin series to present the Summer Sweets Buffet: Tropical Vacation de Moomin, available from June 4 to August 30, 2026. This gastronomic event is inspired by the story of the Moomin family on vacation on a tropical island, offering around 20 types of themed desserts such as the Moomin cake under the umbrella and the summer fruit tart.
The engineering of a three-dimensional animated dessert 🍰
The creation of these sweets involved a considerable technical development process. The pastry chefs at Hilton Osaka worked with custom silicone molds to replicate the shapes of the characters, using 3D printing for prototypes. The Moomin cake under the umbrella required a wire frame coated with fondant to support the structure. Natural colorings were used to maintain the original color palette of the series, and textures were adjusted so that the desserts could withstand up to four hours in refrigerated display cases without losing their shape.
Desserts that don't melt, unlike your patience 😅
The organizers claim that the buffet includes desserts that don't melt, unlike your patience while waiting in line to get in. If you think booking a table at a five-star hotel is easy, wait until you see your child's face when you tell them the Moomin cake is gone. At least the summer fruit tart has enough fiber so that the subsequent tantrum isn't so hard to digest.
