GKIDS has released the English-dubbed trailer for Decorado, the new film by Alberto Vázquez, which will arrive in North American theaters on May 15. The distributor will offer the film in its original version with subtitles and in English dub, with tickets now available. The work, winner of the Goya and Quirino awards, competes at Annecy and adapts the 2016 short film of the same name.
2D animation with digital textures and layers of visual narrative 🎨
Decorado uses a 2D animation technique with digital textures that mimic engraving, combining detailed backgrounds with thick-stroke characters. The color palette alternates between cool and warm tones to reflect Arnold's mental state. Vázquez applies layers of visual narrative through asymmetrical framing and perspective shifts, reinforcing the sense of paranoia. The sound design, with silences and ambient noises, underscores the oppressive atmosphere.
Arnold, the mouse who suspects his life is a poorly written script 🐭
Arnold, a middle-aged mouse with an existential crisis, believes everything is a sham. And seeing how things are going, he's not wrong: his world seems like a papier-mâché set where even the cheese smells like plastic. While he searches for answers, the viewer only hopes he doesn't discover that his creator is a Galician with a Goya who drew him to suffer a little.
