Epic Games has confirmed a collaboration between Fortnite and Overwatch starting on May 14. The event will bring four characters from Blizzard's hero shooter to the island: D.Va, Genji, Tracer, and Mercy. The company announced it with a short trailer and the message Your mission: protect the island. All the content and the exact mechanics of integrating these heroes have not yet been detailed.
How Overwatch abilities will fit into Fortnite's engine 🎮
The technical integration raises questions about how each hero's unique abilities will adapt to Fortnite's system. D.Va could use her mech as a vehicle or power item, Genji would require a dash and projectile reflection mechanic, Tracer would need her blink and recall, and Mercy her flight and healing staff. Epic will need to balance these capabilities without breaking the battle royale's pace, possibly limiting them to items or skins with special animations.

Overwatch fans have been asking for new content for their game for months, and Blizzard responds by sending their characters to Fortnite.
