California-based startup Firestorm Labs has secured $82 million in a Series B round, bringing the total to $153M. The investment, led by Washington Harbour Partners and supported by Lockheed Martin Ventures and Booz Allen Ventures, aims to accelerate the transition from prototypes to mass production for active conflict zones.
From 3D printing to the theater of operations 🚁
The company uses additive manufacturing and modular design to produce low-cost unmanned aerial systems. Its approach allows adapting aircraft to specific missions in weeks, not years. With the new capital, they plan to scale their production lines and deploy units in hostile environments, competing with giants like General Atomics in speed and logistical flexibility.
Easy money to fly expensive things 💸
One hundred and fifty-three million dollars in total. With that, you could buy about 300 luxury cars or, if you're Firestorm Labs, manufacture a handful of drones that will probably crash on the first mission. But hey, at least Lockheed Martin has seen something we haven't: a way to spend defense budgets without having to justify too much.
