The president of the Spanish Rugby Federation, Hansen, has presented Spain's bid to host the 2035 World Cup at an event at the CSD. With the support of its president, Rodríguez Uribes, Hansen stated that the country is ready for the event, citing the growth of rugby, infrastructure improvements, and institutional support as pillars of the proposal.
Infrastructure and technology as the foundation of the bid 🏟️
The bid relies on the modernization of stadiums and transport capacity. It plans to adapt venues such as the Metropolitano or the Camp Nou, with LED lighting systems and state-of-the-art hybrid turf. 5G connectivity at the venues and the use of smart ticketing platforms are key to managing fans. Spain aims to demonstrate that its high-speed rail network and airports can sustain a tournament of 48 teams without collapsing.
The Federation is confident that rugby is not a minority sport 🏉
Hansen assured that Spanish rugby has grown, but perhaps forgot to mention that in many bars, people still confuse an oval ball with a deflated soccer ball. The bid promises that by 2035 we will all know what a ruck is, although by then we will probably still be arguing whether the try is celebrated with bread with tomato or a giant paella. At least, the CSD already has the excuse ready for when we don't qualify.
