The unofficial project to bring The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to PC has had to rename itself, but this time Nintendo has nothing to do with it. The responsible party is New Blood Interactive, the studio behind the FPS Dusk, which claimed trademark rights. After an amicable agreement, the project was renamed Dusklight.
How the name conflict between two different projects was resolved 🛡️
The creators of the port explained that they received a notification from New Blood Interactive for using a name too similar to their game. Instead of escalating the issue, both parties dialogued and agreed on the change to Dusklight. The developers assure that the rest of the project remains the same: same code, same features, and same estimated release date. The change only affects the name and the minimal visual identity necessary to avoid legal confusion.
Nintendo breathes a sigh of relief, someone else did the dirty work 😅
For once, Nintendo didn't have to send its dreaded cease and desist letters. New Blood Interactive took it upon itself to remind the world that game names are also protected. The curious thing is that a small studio achieved what the big N couldn't: getting an unofficial project to change its name without drama. If only all disputes were resolved with a simple title change and not with lawyers.
