The Provincial Council of Valencia has hosted the IX Feminari with a clear motto: abolition of prostitution and sexual exploitation. Vice President Natàlia Enguix opened the forum, describing the business as cruel and commodifying women. Academics, activists, and survivors called for an urgent state law to prevent Spain from projecting the image of a pimp state.
Technology against trafficking: algorithms to detect exploitation ads 🤖
During the Feminari, the use of technological tools to combat trafficking was addressed. Artificial intelligence systems analyze patterns in contact ads to identify exploitation networks. These platforms cross-reference location data, schedules, and coded language, allowing law enforcement to act before victims are moved. Automating these processes reduces manual work and speeds up reporting.
The algorithm that doesn't want to be a pimp (but needs more data) 🧠
While activists called for laws, technicians explained that their AI only detects 40% of cases because pimps have become very creative with emojis. Right now, the system confuses a massage ad with a heart for one offering services. The solution: train the algorithm with a thousand more examples of ads from ladies offering a happy ending but not specifying if it includes coffee.
