The Spanish government, through Sepi digital, is injecting 752 million euros into Diamond Foundry to manufacture semiconductors in Zaragoza. In parallel, Stellantis plans to hire 500 workers for the new production of the Leapmotor brand in the same region. Two moves that reinforce industrial and technological activity in the area.
Diamond semiconductors: a technical leap with a Spanish seal 💎
Diamond Foundry will use its diamond deposition technology to create substrates with high thermal conductivity, key in power semiconductors for electric vehicles and data centers. The investment, led by Sepi digital, aims to reduce external dependence on advanced chips. Stellantis, for its part, will integrate these components into its new Leapmotor line, optimizing the energy efficiency of its models.
From diamonds to cars: Zaragoza, the new industrial Mecca 🚗
So while Diamond Foundry makes diamond chips so computers don't overheat, Stellantis is looking for 500 souls to assemble Chinese cars in Figueruelas. Everything points to Zaragoza becoming the Silicon Valley of the Ebro, but with more tapas bars and fewer polar fleeces. That said, if the semiconductors fail, at least the workers will have jobs to tell jokes in the unemployment line.
