Chinese manufacturer Chery is preparing the arrival of its new luxury SUV, the Lepas L4, in Europe by the end of 2027. The model will be available in fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, the latter promising a combined range of up to 1,100 kilometers. With a sporty fastback design and slim headlights, the L4 aims to be the brand's most accessible and best-selling model in the C segment.
Two engines and one platform for the C segment 🚗
The Lepas L4 is developed on a specific platform for the C segment. The PHEV version combines a combustion engine with an electric one to achieve that combined range figure. The electric variant does without the front grille, giving a cleaner front end. The model includes 18-inch wheels as standard. Chery aims to compete directly with European compact SUVs, offering an affordable option without sacrificing the features of a luxury brand.
1,100 km of range (and a grille that hides) ⛽
With 1,100 kilometers of combined range, the L4 PHEV could make the Madrid-Berlin route without refueling, although you might have time to learn German during the trip. The electric version is more modest in range, but at least you won't have to look for the front grille: it disappeared to make the car look more aerodynamic and give you one less thing to clean on Sundays. A luxury SUV that promises to be the best-seller, even if that means sharing traffic lights with everyone else.
