The Council of Ministers has authorized the Ministry of Culture to assume multi-year expenses to guarantee the Young Cultural Bonus between 2027 and 2029. The measure modifies the limits of the General Budget Law and updates the agreement with the National Mint and Stamp Factory, as well as the agreement with Correos, following the internal reorganization of the program in 2025.
Updated technological infrastructure and payment systems 🖥️
The agreement sets maximum spending commitments of 8.68 million for 2027, 4.99 million for 2028, and 1.51 million for 2029. Additionally, 16.9 million will be allocated between 2026 and 2029 for technological management, and 8.04 million to facilitate payment methods. The modernization of the infrastructure and management systems aims to correct deficiencies detected in the operation of the bonus, ensuring its continuity without disruptions.
More budget for paying, less for the bonus itself 💸
Because, of course, for young people to spend 400 euros on culture, you first have to spend 16.9 million so the system doesn't crash when loading the card. And another 8 million so Correos doesn't lose the envelope with the plastic card. In the end, the real art is balancing the books so that bureaucracy doesn't eat up the budget before the user can buy a book.
