Embark Studios has announced Frozen Trail, the first major update for ARC Raiders, arriving in October. This expansion introduces new frozen locations, unknown enemies, and narrative content, along with changes to progression. The studio aims to transform the experience with denser content that alters the game's rules.
Graphics engine and level design: cold as an active mechanic ❄️
Frozen Trail leverages Unreal Engine 5 to generate dynamic environments where weather affects gameplay. Ice storms modify visibility and sound, while new enemies, adapted to the biome, force a rethink of combat tactics. Adjustments to progression, such as restructuring the skill tree, aim to eliminate dead ends in player advancement. Embark states that these expansions will be more substantial than simple patches.
New enemies: because the old ones weren't scary anymore 🥶
Because the robotic raiders were becoming predictable, creatures arrive that not only freeze the map but also your desire to leave the base. Now, in addition to worrying about ammo, you'll have to calculate if your thermal jacket can withstand the next ambush. All so that, when you die, the game reminds you that you could have farmed better.
