Stellantis has decided to lower Alfa Romeo's ambitions, classifying it as a regional brand focused on Italy and Southern Europe. The Fastlane 2030 plan eliminates its global premium status, and the absence of the new Giulia and Stelvio from the plans suggests that these key models have been canceled or postponed indefinitely. For the brand's followers, it is a hard blow that reduces it to its home market.
The technical basis of the retreat: limited platforms and engines 🛠️
Stellantis' industrial strategy assigns Alfa Romeo a reduced technical offering. STLA Medium and Large platforms will be prioritized, but only for models destined for Southern Europe, with no plans for expansion into North America or Asia. Combustion engines will be limited to mild hybrid and entry-level electric versions, leaving out the high-performance developments that characterized the brand. Opel and Citroën are also relegated in this reorganization.
Giulia and Stelvio: from global icons to ghosts in the room 👻
The news has made Alfa Romeo fans wonder if the new Giulia exists only in YouTube renders or in some designer's wet dreams. Stellantis has managed to make waiting for a model like waiting for the premiere of a movie that never arrives. At least, Italian dealerships will be able to continue selling the Tonale with pride, while the rest of the world wonders if Alfa Romeo is a brand or a fan club based in Milan.
