The Civil Guard has intercepted 41 tons of cocaine in two consecutive operations during the first half of February. This record volume confirms Europol's alert from early 2026, which pointed to an unprecedented flow of drugs into Europe via the Atlantic route. The shipments, hidden in cargo containers, were detected thanks to scanning systems and trained dogs at the ports of Algeciras and Las Palmas.
Scanners and algorithms against mass trafficking 🚨
Technology has been key in these interventions. The new high-penetration X-ray scanners, combined with artificial intelligence algorithms, can analyze container density in seconds. The system, trained on thousands of concealment patterns, identifies anomalies in 95% of cases. Additionally, maritime surveillance drones have extended the control radius by 200 nautical miles, making transfers at sea more difficult. The Civil Guard has also strengthened the analysis of satellite navigation data to anticipate routes.
41 tons: the largest home delivery in history 😂
With this volume, the cartels seem to have confused the Atlantic with an Amazon Prime logistics center. 41 tons are enough for every Spaniard to receive about 870 grams of white powder, or for the drug traffickers to open a fan club with free tasting. Of course, the Civil Guard has shown that no matter how much they send with a express delivery label, the delivery person always ends up handcuffed. Maybe they should try traditional courier, which at least leaves no digital footprint.
