Around 3,000 Valencia CF supporters demonstrated on May 23 from the Town Hall square to the Mestalla stadium. Under the slogan We Have More Than Enough Reasons, the Libertad VCF association organized the protest to denounce the management of Peter Lim and his local collaborators over the past seven years. The attendees, dressed in the club's colors and carrying yellow signs, directed their criticism at general manager Javier Solís, CEO Ron Gourlay, and coach Carlos Corberán.
Sports management technology under scrutiny 📊
The Valencia CF crisis exposes failures in the club's sports and financial management systems. The lack of transparency in transfer algorithms and the absence of objective performance metrics have created a team without identity. While leading clubs use data analysis platforms to optimize squads, at Mestalla personal criteria are prioritized. The integration of comprehensive management software could monitor everything from salary expenditure to tactical effectiveness, but the current board seems to ignore these tools.
Peter Lim and the art of losing fans 😅
The protest showed that Valencia supporters have more mobility in their legs than the team on the field. While the players run less than 100 kilometers per match, the fans walked 3 kilometers in the demonstration. Perhaps the next signing should be a GPS so the squad can find the opponent's goal. And if the board continues like this, they will soon need another map to locate the season ticket holders still in the stands.
