At GDC 2026, Sony Honda Mobility presented its vision for the Afeela, not only as an electric vehicle, but as a development platform. The company encourages creators, especially from the video game sector, to build applications for its internal ecosystem using an SDK and simulation tools, prioritizing software over hardware technical specifications.
The Afeela Creator Hub and an SDK with Integrated Simulator 🛠️
The core of this proposal is the Afeela Creator Hub, a platform that provides access to vehicle systems such as real-time telemetry, cabin user interfaces, or audio. The SDK, scheduled for beta in summer 2026, will allow developing and validating applications from a computer, using virtual environments and recorded car data, without needing the physical hardware for initial testing.
Finally, a car where the software has failed will be literal 😅
Imagine the scene: you're driving and, suddenly, your car shows a blue screen because the weather app you downloaded conflicted with the heated seat controls. At least you can report the bug directly from the steering wheel. With this approach, the experience of playing with the vehicle's settings takes on a completely new meaning full of unexpected possibilities.
